Matanuska-Susitna College (MSC) is seeking a Term Instructor or Assistant Professor of Refrigeration and Heating. This is a bipartite (no research requirement) position with an anticipated start date of January 7, 2019. Courses will be taught face-to-face on the Mat-Su College campus.
Mat-Su College is a community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage. The campus is located on 951 acres in the Matanuska-Susitna valley, surrounded by the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains. We serve as a major higher education hub for the communities of Wasilla and Palmer. Our student-friendly campus offers small class sizes and a separate lab area where HVAC/R students can gain hands-on experience. The campus has an annual operating budget of nearly $11,000,000 and employs nearly one hundred full-time faculty and staff and more than one hundred adjunct instructors to serve approximately 1,800 students each semester.

Duties:
Knoweldge/Skills/Abilities:
+ Ability to communicate current HVACR technology concepts and theories to a diverse student population
+ Ability to prepare students to progress to advanced levels in the HVACR trades
+ Ability to incorporate technology in a classroom setting to support student learning
+ Ability to provide a safe learning environment in the classroom and in the laboratory
+ Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
+ Commitment to student success
+ Ability to construct effective learning activities for students
+ Ability to foster collegiality and work collaboratively within a diverse environment
+ Demonstrated experience with/knowledge of the theory and processes behind HVACR systems
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of oil and gas heating
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of commercial and residential forced air HVAC systems
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of sheet metal fabrication
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of air distribution systems
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of hydronic heating systems
+ Demonstrated experience with and/or knowledge of HVACR control systems
+ Ability to interpret and design electrical control schematics
+ Demonstrated experience communicating in a teaching/training environment
+ Possess industry certifications or licenses
+ Education/training/experience demonstrates a commitment to excellence and professional development
Experience/Education/Training:
Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their education and technical training, industry certifications, past teaching experiences, expertise and experience in the HVACR field, and potential for providing high-quality instruction to students in assigned courses at Mat-Su College.
Must have a minimum of an AAS in HVAC/R or a related field
Must have an EPA Section 608 Universal Certification
Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the HVACR field
Duties:
- As a bipartite faculty member, the successful candidate will advise students, maintain records, participate in university and non-university committees, and fulfill university workload component for service.
- Maintain office hours as appropriate for student support.
- Create and update curriculum and instructional materials as necessary.
- Participate in program improvement through the UAA program assessment process.
- Maintain professional currency through self-study, coursework, and professional development.
- Over the course of the academic year, successful candidate will teach the following courses in a manner consistent with the specific course content description and with standards of good practice in HVAC/R:
+ RH A203 HVAC/R Basic Controls
+ RH A209 Codes for HVAC/R
+ RH A211 Customer Relations & Job Etiquette
+ RH A225 Heating Fundamentals and Forced Air Heat
+ RH A226 Commercial HVAC/R Systems
+ RH A229 HVAC/R Control Systems
+ RH A232 HVAC/R Sheet Metal
Workload will normally consist of: 80% teaching (12 credits per semester) and 20% service to the university, community, and discipline

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
